what is DMV's battle of the books?
DMV's Battle of the Books is a lively academic competition that will be sure to get students excited about reading. Its purpose? To expose students to books that celebrate children and authors of color.
Students form teams starting in June through September. Teams will meet regularly to read, discuss, and prepare for the ultimate battle on Sunday, October 27, 2019. During the Battle, teams will compete, demonstrating their mastery of each book.
The mission of DMV's Battle of the Books is to improve reading comprehension, build public speaking skills, and spelling and vocabulary while also teaching teamwork and good sportsmanship.
This event is open to students grades 1-12 who live in the DC, Maryland, Virginia, and surrounding states. Selected schools may receive an invitation to participate.
